Baby Gourmet Donates $150,000 in Organic Slammers Superfood Snack Pouches to Charities Across Canada
The Heart of Baby Gourmet program started the busy back-to-school season with a big donation that we couldn’t help but share! During the week of August 12, 2019, 161,000 pouches of product were split between three organizations: the Calgary Food Bank, Daily Bread Food Bank and The Salvation Army (both in Toronto).
“In 2018 The Salvation Army provided 3.2 Million free meals to Canadians in need,” says Rob Kerr, Major Divisional Secretary for Public Relations with the Salvation Army. “As we approach the beginning of a new school year, we realize that almost 1 in 5 children in Ontario are living in poverty and as such may not be eating nutritious meals that will allow them to achieve their full potential in school. Thanks to Baby Gourmet, this significant donation of Baby Gourmet Slammers Snacks will help us provide healthy nutritious food to many children. These snacks will be distributed out across the GTA through our food banks and also through our back to school programs that help families ensure their children have the supplies they need to enter the new school year,” says Kerr.
Shawna Ogston, Communications and Media Relations Supervisor with the Calgary Food Bank says that this donation will “go a long way” in assisting the food bank’s Weekends & More program. “Filling more than 8,600 kid-friendly hampers in a school year means Heart of Baby Gourmet is making sure students are getting the nutritious food they need on the weekends,” says Ogston.
“When school is out, the stress and pressure on parents to feed their children multiplies,” says Neil Hetherington, CEO at Daily Bread. “Without meal and snack programs, parents have to find alternative ways to provide food for their families and many rely on the support of food banks. At a time of year when our food stock is low, this generous and timely donation from Baby Gourmet will help to supplement hampers that will be going out to families in need all across the city.”
To date, Heart of Baby Gourmet has donated 507,143 meals, with a mission to reach one million meals donated by 2025. To learn more about Heart of Baby Gourmet, click here and check out some of the fun photos from the donations below!

About Heart Of Baby Gourmet:
Heart of Baby Gourmet was born from Baby Gourmet’s company-wide conviction that Canada’s most vulnerable: babies, toddlers and children, have access to the highest quality organic food, snacks and nutritional beverages available on supermarket shelves. The program unofficially kicked off in 2013 with the donation of 10,000 pouches of organic baby food to Calgary Food Bank and North Harvest Food Bank. In 2014 the company continued to support those in need across Canada, with a donation of its Squoosh snacks to flood victims in Saskatchewan. Recently, Heart of Baby Gourmet partnered with Essential Aid, Children’s Cottage Society and Inn from the Cold and has donated 178,491 meals to date with plans for more partnerships across the country.
